Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Teachers' Page Credits
Spain is a small country smaller than Texas, but bigger than Ohio. It's located in the European Continent. Today, we are going to learn about this culture. We are going to learn about the major cities, bodies of water that surround Spain, and the countries that border it. Imagine that you have a pen pal from Spain, and he/she is planning to visit with your family for a week. You are in charge of introducing his/her culture to your family and friends.
The task will be divided in two sections.
1) When creating your PowerPoint project your group must include language, religion, festivals, and food. 2) The first part of your presentation must discuss the different languages spoken in Spain. You can research about the languages using the following links: Languages spoken in Spain
Castilian Catalan Galician Euskera 3) The second part of the project will include the different types of religion in Spain using the following links to create your PowerPoint. 4) The third part of the project; your group will choose two different festivals to include and explain in your PowerPoint. You can gain access to the festivals using the following five links. Festivals of Spain:
TOROS REYES MAGOS SAN FERMINES 5) For the last part of your presentation, you will be required to choose two different kinds of the following Spanish foods.
Food
6) When creating your PowerPoint you need to consider your grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Be creative and original as possible. 7) After completing your project, you will required to present it to the class in a 15 to 20 minutes oral presentation.
1) Upon the completion of the PowerPoint presentations, each student will be required to complete the following individual task. 2) Each student must printout the following blank map of Spain. 3) The blank map must be filled out with the following cities, bodies of water, and countries. You can use the information provided in the links below to complete the map.
The students will be evaluated by two different rubrics. The group project evaluation rubric is shown below:
The individual assignment will be evaluated with the following rubric:
Upon completion of the following two assignments, the students will have a better understanding of Spain's culture, religion, language, festivals, and food. They will also have greater knowledge of the major cities, bodies of water and surrounding countries of Spain. Now the students will have a better understanding of their pen pal's background and culture.
The teachers' objectives: each student will be given a blank map of Spain, and he/she will write the correct countries, cities, and bodies of water in the corresponding location. The students will be grouped in order to gather information from internet-based resources to create a PowerPoint presentation about cultural aspects of Spain: religion, languages, food, and festivals. Alignment with Ohio Academic Content Standards. According to the Ohio Academic Content Standards under the indicator of geography a sixth grader should be able to place countries on which they are located. Under the indicator of research a sixth grader should be able to generate a topic, gather information from multiple sources, such as school library catalogs, online databases, electronic resources, and Internet-based resources, use quotations to support his or her ideas; and the students will correctly use an appropriate form of documentation to acknowledge sources.
