Educational Philosophy
I believe that the purpose of education is to give all students opportunity to learn to their fullest potential. This includes students with disabilities. As an educator, I will be aware of all the current laws affecting my field. I will have the skills, knowledge, and disposition that will allow me to assist all children with or without exceptional needs. I will make the proper accommodations to meet the needs of all the students in my classroom.
I believe that students learn best when taught in a certain atmosphere. The classroom should be set up to foster learning and to meet individual needs of all the children. The classroom will be accessible to all students to move freely. There will be areas for individual and group instruction. The classroom must be able to change to meet the needs of all children no matter their disability. I will talk to them as individuals and get to know them on a personal level. Every child needs affection and love to feel like they belong. Not every child will come from a loving family, so as an educator I must be aware of the needs they may have and make sure they are being met. I believe as an educator I must be positive and give my student the motivation they need to want to learn. As an educator, I will dedicate my focus on my student’s education and will not be afraid to do things differently if needed. One thing will not work for all students so I must be aware of different strategies to meet individual needs. I will have a strong foundation of Multiple Factor Evaluations. I will also know how to read and apply a student’s IEP to ensure that all student’s needs are being met.
The classroom curriculum of all schools should include certain “basic” guidelines that focus on social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of all students. I will always try to promote learning at every level. I will adapt or adjust my instruction strategies as needed for each classroom or child. I will communicate with parents, general education teachers, and special education teachers so we all will understand what is going on. It is very important that I have an open communication line with all the resources available to me. This includes parents, administrators, general education teachers, other special education teachers, community, and all related services. As an educator I will never give up on a child.
As an educator, I know how important it is to involve the parents of a typical student. However, for students with exceptional needs, it is vital I get them involved in their child’s education. I must have the parent’s signature to make the accommodations the student may need. I will be sure to keep a good communication line going with the parents through meetings, phone calls, and progress reports. Parents play a major part in the process of developing the IEP. Parents know their child best and schools must have the parent’s signature to assess the student and develop an IEP. I will also call upon the community for resources I may need.
I feel that educators should have certain qualities. I need to be an expert in my field so parents, principles, faculty members, and students have confidence in me. It is also important to know the current laws because I will be accountable for them. I will have a good disposition and be a role model for all. I may not always know what to do, but at no time will I harm a child.
